Getting Started
You need to install two apps:
- iPhone App: Download "Proximity Lock" from the iOS App Store
- Mac App: Download "Proximity Lock" from the Mac App Store
Both apps are required for the Bluetooth pairing to work.
- Open the Mac app — it will display a QR code
- Open the iPhone app and tap "Scan QR Code"
- Point your iPhone camera at the Mac's QR code
- Done! Your devices are now paired via Bluetooth
The entire process takes less than 30 seconds. No account or cloud setup required.
- iPhone: iOS 15.0 or later with Bluetooth 5.0+
- Mac: macOS 13.0 (Ventura) or later with Bluetooth support
- Bluetooth: Must be enabled on both devices
Connectivity & Auto-Lock
Try these steps:
- Check Bluetooth: Ensure Bluetooth is ON on both devices
- Check Distance Threshold: Adjust the lock distance in the Mac app settings
- Typing Protection: The app won't lock while you're actively typing. This is by design.
- Restart Bluetooth: Toggle Bluetooth off and on again on both devices
- Re-pair: Forget the device and scan the QR code again
Bluetooth signals can fluctuate due to obstacles or interference. Try:
- Increase the lock distance threshold to give more buffer
- Move closer to your Mac when possible
- The Smart Signal Filter should handle brief drops — if issues persist, try re-pairing your devices
No. Proximity Lock uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), which is specifically designed for minimal power consumption. The impact on your battery is negligible — typically less than 1% per day.
Café Mode
You can activate Café Mode from either device:
- iPhone: Open the app and toggle Café Mode on the main dashboard
- Mac: Click the menu bar icon and select "Enable Café Mode"
Once activated, the alarm will trigger if someone unplugs the charger, closes the lid, or wakes the screen.
The alarm can be dismissed from your iPhone. When the alarm triggers, you'll receive an instant notification on your iPhone with a button to stop it. You can also unlock your Mac to dismiss.
